Crystal Septic Tank Conversion

How the ClearFlo sewage treatment plant works as a Septic Tank Conversion Unit

There are distinct advantages in placing a septic tank in front of any sewage treatment unit as it intercepts all slowly degradable items such as tampons, baby wipes, etc. which can cause problems in most sewage treatment systems.

The outlet from the septic tank connects directly into the inlet pipe to the ClearFlo sewage treatment plant and cleans the septic tank wastewater to full Royal Commission Standard of 20BOD:30SS on a 95 percentile basis.  In practise, the effluent is much cleaner than this, often achieving results in single figures.

The resulting clean water can be discharged directly to a watercourse with E.A. Consent.

The septic tank is emptied only periodically, e.g. a 3300 litre septic tank with 6 persons using it would be emptied annually and with 3 persons using it, every 2 years, but the ClearFlo sewage treament plant will not require emptying for 7 to 12 + years.

This treatment plant is widely used in the USA, where many extended aeration sewage treatment units are specifically designed to follow septic tanks, or 'trash' tanks as they are known as in the States.

If you are installing a new septic tank, we recommend using a traditional two chamber type as opposed to a 'bottle' design as the effluent tends to be much less polluting.  We recommend the Condor septic tanks which are also available through us.

If, for any reason, the septic tank fails completely, e.g. internal struts collapse (Klargester) or brickwork corrodes, it can simply be by-passed at a future date and the ClearFlo will treat the effluent on its own.  This is not true of any of the other septic tank conversion systems on the market, as a new septic tank would need to be purchased and installed.
